On June 29, 2026 a group of volunteers worked on a trail improvement that had been pending for some time. A trail re-alignment between Hedges Run Drive and Mohican Road in Lake Ridge was approved in 2021. Most of the re-alignment was completed subsequently, including the 110-ft bridge over Hedges Run, but one short section of the realignment and a small bridge were never completed. The new route bypasses a wet area where the trail was right in the path of a storm water outflow. Volunteers opened the new trail path on drier ground and completed a 16-foot wood pedestrian / bike bridge at a small stream crossing. The location is shown on the map below.
Thanks to the eight volunteers who participated; most were Lake Ridge residents but Montclair, Woodbridge and Dale City were represented as well! And thanks to the Lake Ridge Parks & Recreation Association for providing the lumber to construct the bridge.
