DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to install sign posts and trail signs on the Occoquan Greenway Trail\, in Lake Ridge on Saturday\, April 28 at 9:00 am.  The PWC Parks Dept has procured sign posts (4 x 4″ pressure treated lumber) and trails signs.  Signs with the Occoquan Greenway Trail logo will mark the trail\, and directional arrows will guide trail users.  Post-hole diggers and digging/rock bars are needed to set posts.  Cordless drivers are needed to fasten the signs to the posts. \nPlease click here to register for the trail work. \nWe will meet in Lake Ridge Park to organize teams and distribute materials for the work. \nContact neil.nelson@pwtsc.org for more information.

SUMMARY:9th annual clean-up of the upper Occoquan River - April 21\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers Needed to Clean the Occoquan River – the water supply for most of Eastern Prince William & Fairfax Counties \nOn Saturday\, April 21\, 2018 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. (rain date April 28\, 2017)\, Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition (PWTSC)\, a 501(c)3 organization\, is conducting its 9th annual clean-up of the upper Occoquan River\, from nine different sites along 25+ miles of the Occoquan River. The clean-up ranges from Cedar Run/Broad Run\, through Lake Jackson\, and from the base of Lake Jackson Dam to Hooes Run (south of Lake Ridge Marina). This cleanup is part of the Alice Ferguson Foundation’s (www.fergusonfoundation.org) Potomac River Watershed Cleanup. \nPWTSC is partnering with the Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District\, Prince William County Parks and Recreation\, Prince William County Public Works\, and a number of  home owners associations\, civic associations\, businesses\, and volunteer groups to accomplish this major 25+-mile river clean-up.  During last year’s clean-up\, 225 volunteers (70 on-water) pulled 405 bags\, 26 tires and 4 barrels out of the Occoquan River and this year we hope to get more help to remove even more! \nPWTSC needs experienced kayakers\, canoeists\, jon boaters\, and pontoon boaters to sign up for this major on-the-water conservation effort.  Some kayaks and canoes will be available for loan provided by Penguin Paddling (at Hooes Run) and the Prince William County Parks and Recreation Department (at Lake Ridge Marina).   Contact Ed Dandar at efdandar@verizon.net or 703-791-6158 for more information. \nClick here to register for the cleanup on the water.\nThere will also be some opportunities for volunteers to cleanup on land\, at storm water facilities and a few other sites.  Click here to register for the cleanup on land. \nMore information will be posted soon\, including a list of access points\, and a link for volunteers to register for the event.

SUMMARY:First Day Hike on the Occoquan Greenway Trail - January 1\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Start the new year with a hike on the Occoquan Greenway Trail.  We’ll hike the planned trail route from the Lake Ridge Association offices to the Town of Occoquan\, a distance of about 3.3 miles.  This section of the trail includes the open area along the Hooes Run section of the Occoquan Reservoir. \nMeet at the parking lot of the Lake Ridge Parks & Recreation Association\, 12350 Oakwood Drive\, Lake Ridge\, VA 22192. \nStart time is 10:00 am\, and the hike should take about two hours. \nThis is a one-way hike to the Town of Occoquan.  Please plan for your own transportation to return to the start point – with a partner\, pre-position a car in Occoquan so it is available at the end of the hike\, or have someone available to provide a ride.  PWTSC will have limited capability to provide transportation back to the start point. \nPlease click here to register.  For more information contact neil.nelson@pwtsc.org

SUMMARY:The Occoquan Greenway Trail - Ten Year Anniversary Hike!
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Prince William Conservation Alliance and Prince William Streams and Trails Coalition \nTen years ago we led the first hike down the Occoquan Greenway Trail from McCoart Government Center to the Town of Occoquan\, beginning a community effort to improve conditions and open the trail to the public.  Today\, about 2.4 miles of contiguous trail is available for hiking\, from Lake Ridge Park to Cotton Mill Drive. \nOn October 28\, we will hike about 7 miles\, beginning at Lake Ridge Park and ending in the Town of Occoquan about three hours later. Transportation back to your car at Lake Ridge Park is provided.   The trail surfaces include well-established natural surfaces\, cleared paths in the woods\, blacktop paths\, sidewalks along streets and fair-weather stream crossings\, which may include some steep banks. \n \nPlease dress accordingly – we recommend long pants\, sturdy hiking shoes\, a hat and long socks. SUMMARY:Neabsco Creek Cleanup - Saturday\, November 5\, 2016
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District\, we are sponsoring a cleanup on Neabsco Creek in Woodbridge\, on Saturday November 5 at 9:00 am.  This is an area where trash accumulates after being swept downstream during rainstorms.  The cleanup area is PW County park property\, upstream from the Metz Wetlands (see map).  Parking for the event is at Neabsco Eagles Park (15801 Neabsco Road\, Woodbridge)\, and then it’s a short walk over to the cleanup site. \nPlease come out and join us as we cleanup one of our local waterways.  Click here to register for the event. \nContact Neil Nelson (email: secretary@pwtsc.org) for more information about the cleanup.
