SUMMARY:POSTPONED - trail workday - Occoquan Greenway Trail - May 23\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:The trail workday on Saturday\, May 23 on Segment 3 of the Occoquan Greenway Trail has been postponed due to weather (forecasts indicate an 80-90% chance of rain) .   Tentative new date for the work is Saturday June 20.  The event announcement will be posted when confirmed.   \nWe’ll be working on a short trail reroute and installing a 16-ft wooden bridge over a stream channel.  The purpose is to reroute the trail away from a consistently wet area onto higher ground for a better hiking and biking experience.    \nPlease register here \nThe work location is off of Mohican Road in Lake Ridge.  Meet at the location shown on the map.  The nearest street address is:  11862 Mohican Rd\, Woodbridge\, VA 22192 (a private residence) \nTime:  9:00 am to noon \nThe work will consist of opening the new trail route by raking\, clipping branches\, and removing downed branches.  For the bridge\, we’ll build the supporting frame\, secure it in place\, and install the treads.   \nLumber for the bridge will be delivered at Mohican Rd on (date to be updated).  We’ll need assistance with moving it away from the road (or all the way to the bridge site).  We’ll have more information on the timing later. \nWhen you register\, we can let you know if the event is rescheduled due to bad weather\, and we have a better idea of how many people to expect. \n\nContact (email):  secretary@pwtsc.org \n\n\n \n

SUMMARY:16th Annual Occoquan River cleanup - POSTPONED to Saturday October 4\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Due to the weather forecast\, the cleanup has been postponed (from Sep 27) and rescheduled to Saturday\, October 4. \nVolunteers Needed to Clean the Occoquan River – The water supply for most of Eastern Prince William & Fairfax Counties.  On Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.\, we will conduct our 16th annual clean-up of the upper Occoquan River\, from nine different sites along 25+ miles of the Occoquan River. The cleanup ranges from Cedar Run/Broad Run\, through Lake Jackson\, and from the base of Lake Jackson Dam to Hooes Run (south of Lake Ridge Marina). \nPlease register for the cleanup on the river here  \nFor those who have already registered for the cleanup on land\, please note this change about location: \nFor the land cleanup\, volunteers should go directly to the actual cleanup site which is the commuter lot at the corner of Minnieville Rd and Old Bridge Rd in Lake Ridge\, near Tackett’s Mill.  The check-in table and cleanup supplies will be there.  Trash will be collected around the stormwater pond and the wooded area at that site.  After check-in\, some volunteers will also be directed to an additional cleanup site nearby\, the stormwater facility at the corner of Mayflower Dr & Clipper Dr. See map below. \nPrevious instructions were to check-in at Lake Ridge Park\, but check-in on Oct 4 will be at the commuter lot cleanup site. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nDuring the 2024 cleanup\, over 80 volunteers on both water and land collected nearly 4\,000 pounds of trash\, putting in over 320 hours of volunteer time. \nHomeowners’ associations\, civic associations\, and businesses are encouraged to help in this effort. \nExperienced kayakers\, canoeists\, Jon boaters\, and pontoon boaters are needed for the on-the-water portion of this conservation effort.  Boaters are expected to put-in and take-out at the same access point. If you put in one location and take out at another\, you must make transportation arrangements (no shuttle service is available).  \nA map showing the access points for the river cleanup is posted here \nClean-up points of contact:  Bill McCarty (wmccarty@manassaslawyers.com) and Veronica Tangiri at waterquality@pwswcd.org
