Trail Maintenance Workday at James S. Long Regional Park

September 28, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us on September 28 at 9am for a trail maintenance workday at the wooded James S. Long Regional Park.  The Trails consist of about 4 miles of scenic trail along Catharpin Creek and another estuary that feeds into it, separated from the soccer and baseball fields by old growth hardwood forest.  We will be heavy trimming two sections of trail near the ball fields, as well as mainly hiking with infrequent trimming along the trails toward the back of the park.  See a map of the park and workday here.

Additional opportunities during the workday:

– observe the progress of the Stream Bank Mitigation effort.  James S. Long Park is the second park in Prince William County that is being worked by Angler Construction.

– walk the Dominion Valley Trail being constructed for a public easement trail connecting James S. Long park to Silver Lake Regional Park.  The trail is approximately 2.5 miles long between the parks.

Bring loppers and pruning saws if you have them – don’t worry if you don’t, we have tools to share. Long pants, sturdy shoes and bug spray are recommended.

Meet at the parking lot at the back of the park, by the baseball fields.  Pre-register for the workday here – it will help us plan for the event, and we’ll be able to notify you if there are any changes.  Contact Scott Helberg for more information.

If you would like to participate with us for future events, please check the calendar on the website www.pwtsc.org, or sign up to receive the monthly newsletter announcing our upcoming activities.
