3rd Annual Occoquan River Cleanup
April 14, 2012 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
On April 14, 2012, from 9-3 we will celebrate the 24th Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup with our 3rd Annual Occoquan River Cleanup. This year we have sites stretching from the confluence of Ceder and Broad Run, and the Bull Run Marina all the way to the Potomac River. We are looking for experienced kayakers and canoeists to launch from one of twelve locations (Dove’s Landing [land only], Lake Jackson, below Lake Jackson Dam, Riverview Estates HOA, Occoquan Forest HOA, Canon Bluff HOA, Bull Run Marina, Fountainhead Marina, Lake Ridge Marina, the Town of Occoquan, Occoquan Regional Park, Mason Neck State Park) take a terrific paddle and pickup all the trash you can along the way. We are also looking for people to clean up on land and do other jobs at these locations. You can download a flyer for this event and maps of the upper Occoquan (sites from Lake Ridge north/west) or lower Occoquan (sites from Town of Occoquan east).
Please register for this event here. Please, please, please register – in order to have sufficient supplies for everyone we really need to know how many people to expect at each site.
We’ll have a shuttle for canoeists and kayakers available on a scheduled basis on both the Prince William and Fairfax County sides of the river, but you must register! Dumpsters and toilet facilities will be available, and trash bags, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Contact Ed if you have any questions [email protected].
This event could not go on without the help of our fabulous partners: the Prince William County Park Authority, Friends of the Occoquan, Alice Ferguson Foundation, Occoquan Watertrail League, Neabsco Action Alliance, Keep Prince William Beautiful, REI, Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District, Prince William County BOS, and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
