One of the park’s main attractions is its extensive trails, which provide a scenic and peaceful experience for visitors who enjoy nature. The trails wind through lush landscapes, offering a perfect opportunity for walking, jogging, or cycling. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely stroll or an active workout, the trails provide a versatile environment for fitness and relaxation. The park’s beautiful wooded areas and proximity to water also make it an excellent spot for birdwatching and photography, allowing visitors to connect with nature.
For families and children, JLP offers an expansive playground that is a popular spot for kids to burn off energy. The playground is equipped with various climbing structures, slides, and swings, making it a safe and enjoyable environment for younger visitors. Additionally, the park has ample open green spaces for picnics and sports activities, such as frisbee or soccer. These open areas provide the perfect setting for family gatherings, birthday parties, or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon with friends. With its combination of play areas and picnic spots, Long Park is an ideal destination for a day out with the whole family.
JLP also features a number of sports facilities for those looking to engage in more competitive activities. JLP is one of three Prince William Department of Parks and Recreation (PWDPR) parks that Mid-Atlantic Off Road Enthusiast (MORE-MTB.org) assists with an established Memorandumn of Agreement (MoA) through PWDPR’s Volunteer Program Policy. In recent years, MORE-MTB trails liaisons Allen Wagner and Chris Myers have been very active in improving all of the 5+ miles of natural surface single track trails, stream crossings, wayfinding signs/blazing and map. They have recently raised over $15,500 that will be matched by MORE-MTB via a grant to build a new 2 mile “Creekside” trail. The Creekside trail will add to the great inventory and will also be very useful trail to close a gap as a connector trail for the Catharpin Greenway on the west and east side of the park. Creekside trail is planned to be officially opened by the end of May, 2025.
