Many thanks to the hardworking volunteers (about 85 in total) who came out to help with the cleanup on Saturday morning. You can see in the pictures below that they removed a huge amount of litter, tires, construction barrels and other trash from the watershed. Volunteers accessed the area and worked in multiple locations:
- the vicinity of the boardwalk
- in the stream corridor and floodplain upstream from the boardwalk
- in the steam corridor downstream from the litter trap near Neabsco Rd
- in the vicinity of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Blackburn Rd
Here’s a tally of the amount of trash collected:
Location | bags of trash | tires | miscellaneous items |
Neabsco Boardwalk and stream corridor | 112 | 30 | large metal tank |
Neabsco Creek near Neabsco Rd | 40 | 5 | large plastic tubs |
vicinity of GSL Church | 45 | 8 | 12 construction barrels, lengths of plastic pipe from utility construction |
Total | 197 | 43 |
Thanks to the PWC Dept of Parks & Recreation for supporting the cleanup with staff and utility vehicles to haul away the trash that volunteers brought to the boardwalk or the blacktop path.
