We observed Public Lands Day with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Doves Landing Park on Saturday, September 26. Volunteers, county officials, and Parks Department representatives were on-hand to celebrate the opening of the park. The Parks Department completed the new parking area earlier this year, and PWTSC has sponsored four trail workdays in the past year, establishing and extending multi-use trails for visitors to the park. Today a new trail segment was completed, from the old growth forest area down to the water, at the confluence of Broad Run and Cedar Run (trails are shown on this map). The Parks Department also obtained a variety of trees and shrubs for landscaping at the parking area, which were planted by the volunteers.
Here’s a photo gallery of the day’s activities at the park.
