Memorial for Marian Hamamo’s Contributions to Prince William County Organizations
Marian Hamamo died on April 1, 2014 after many years of Lyme disease complications. Over the years she was a contributing member of several outdoor organizations.
As a member of the Nokesville Horse Society, she helped start their first website. In January 2006, she became a founding member of the Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition (PWTSC) that focuses on improving and developing trails and gaining public access to Prince William County waterways. She worked in its early formation with other members on establishing the first PWTSC website. She was known there as the “Little Blue” tractor lady for all the work she did with her little blue tractor in opening the Valley View Park multi-use and Horse Trail in Nokesville, segments of the Broad Run Trail in Bristow, and Andrew Leitch Park in Dale City.
After several years, she joined the Prince William Conservation Alliance, helping with various events at Merrimac Farm Wildlife Management Area in Nokesville – like fundraising with her nature paintings. She also achieved her Master Naturalist certification while there. Marian Hamamo was an outstanding volunteer in whatever organization she belonged to.
