Another big cleanup effort was completed at Marumsco Creek in Veterans Park in Woodbridge on Saturday, November 10, 2013. PWTSC assisted with the cleanup, joined by Neabsco Action Alliance, Keep Prince William Beautiful, REI, PW Soil & Water Conservation District, Girl Scout Troop 1908, and many individual volunteers. A total of 48 volunteers plus several PWC Parks & Recreation employees spent 3 hours removing an estimated 5000 pounds of trash, including: 28 tires, a large fuel tank, a 5 gallon bucket of hazardous waste, and a large roll-off dumpster filled with indoor and outdoor furniture, toys, shopping carts, plastic and glass bottles, cans, styrofoam, a sleeping bag, plastic bags, food wrappers, car seats, construction materials, bicycles, and more. Another cleanup will be held in early Spring 2013 (date TBD) to continue cleaning up the large amounts of trash deposited in this area from past flooding upstream.
